Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá efektivními způsoby vyučování a učení se anglickým slovesům. Výzkum byl prováděn v gymnaziálním prostředí. Tato diplomová práce sestává z několika částí. V první části je prezentována teorie, skládající se z oblastí jako je definice gramatiky, druhy významů gramatických tvarů, typy gramatických pravidel a pojednání o tom, zda gramatiku učit či neučit. V hlavní části této diplomové práce jsou zkoumány tři oblasti. Za prvé, jsou stanoveny kompetenční a produkční schopnosti a znalosti zúčastněných studentů a to za použití několika různých pomůcek. Za druhé, kvalitativní metoda – zápis přemýšlení nahlas (Think Aloud Protocol) - je použita u jedné ze tříd, aby se zjistilo více o jejich procedurálních schopnostech a jak jsou tyto ovlivněny během práce na písemném úkolu. Za třetí to nejdůležitější, bylo odučeno šest vyučovacích hodin, zaměřených na oblasti sloves, se kterými měli studenti problémy. Tato část se skládá z teorie o zkoumaných a použitých učebních metodách, plánů daných hodin a popisu vlastního průběhu ve třídě. Navíc je zahrnuto hodnocení těchto hodin z hlediska jejich efektivnosti a vhodnosti. Při provádění posledně zmíněného byla použita Thornburyho klasifikace faktorů, které ovlivňují efektivnost hodin založených na učení gramatiky. Poslední část výzkumu obsahuje pohled daných studentů na odučené hodiny – shrnutí jejich hodnocení příslušných hodin a použitých učebních metod. V závěrečné části jsou uvedeny rady pro efektivní plánování hodin a faktory, které by učitel měl mít na zřeteli při vyučování gramatiky.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with effective ways of teaching and learning English verbs. The research has been carried out in a grammar-school environment. The diploma thesis comprises of several parts. In the first part, a theoretical background is presented, containing issues like the definition of grammar, kinds of meaning of grammatical forms, types of grammar rules and a discussion on whether to teach or not to teach grammar. In the major part of the diploma thesis, three areas of language learning are examined. Firstly, the competence and performance factors of the students’ language abilities are determined with the use of several distinct aids. Secondly, a qualitative method – Think Aloud Protocol – was used with one of the involved classes to find out more about their procedural knowledge and how it is influenced while working on a writing task. Thirdly, and most importantly, six lessons, concentrating on the verb areas the students had problems with, were taught. This part consists of the theoretical background of the six different teaching methods that were examined and used, the lesson plans and the descriptions of the own procedures in the classroom. In addition, the evaluation of the lessons from the standpoint of their efficiency and appropriacy is included. To do this, Scott Thornbury’s classification of the factors influencing the effectiveness of grammar-based lessons is applied. The last part of the research contains the students’ view of the six lessons – a summary of their evaluation of the lessons and the teaching methods that were used. In the conclusion part, advice for effective lesson planning and the factors that a teacher dealing with grammar should bear in mind are presented.
