Analysis of Maria Schenkel’s novel “Tannöd”, according to the model of Christiane Nord. Attempt at a translation of the work “Bunker”, with commentary.

Abstract:

The object of my diploma thesis is an analysis of the German criminal novel “Tannöd” by Andrea Maria Schenkel, and a comparison with its Czech translation. In the theoretical part, I think about the principles of literal translation. I then deal with philosophical dispositions, processes of communication, interpretation of the original, orientation of the text to the reader and with the specific communication context. I also introduce the author and her two works “Tannöd” and “Bunker”. In the practical part, I undertake an in-depth analysis of the novel “Tannöd”. I examine all the external and internal factors, principally in the two chapters “die Lexik” and “die Syntax”. I compare the Czech translation to the German original. I present many systematically organised examples, most of which are supplied complete with commentary; and of these, some also with translating recommendations. In the final section, I attach a translation of part of the novel “Bunker” from the same author. This translation is supplemented by a commentary of problematic passages, together with possible solutions.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou kriminálního románu „Tannöd“, jehož autorkou je Andrea Maria Schenkel, a srovnáním s jeho českým překladem. V teoretické části se zamýšlím nad principy literárního překladu. Zabývám se filozofickými předpoklady, procesem komunikace, interpretací originálu, orientací textu na příjemce a specifickým komunikačním kontextem. Představuji také autorku a její dvě díla „Tannöd“ a „Bunker“. V praktické části se věnuji komplexní analýze románu „Tannöd“, rozebírám všechny jeho vnětextové a vnitrotextové faktory. Především v kapitole „die Lexik“ a „die Syntax“ srovnávám originál s překladem, uvádím mnoho systematicky utříděných příkladů, které u většiny případů doplňuji komentářem nebo vlastním řešením. Na konci přikládám překlad části kriminálního románu „Bunker“ od téže autorky. Překlad je doplněný o komentář problematických částí a možná řešení.
