Effect of young spruce stand density on radiation use efficiency under changing environmental conditions

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo zejména porovnání variant porostní výchovy z hlediska jejich vlivu na efektivitu využití slunečního záření ve stejnověké, nesmíšené tyčkovině smrku ztepilého (Picea abies (L.) Karst) v období let 2019–2023. Porost se nachází v nadmořské výšce 400 m n. m., tedy na spodní hranici ekologické valence smrku. Porostní výchova byla provedena ve dvou variantách (mírný zásah, silný zásah), přičemž kontrolní variantou je plocha bez aplikovaného výchovného zásahu. Z výsledků práce vychází, že efektivita využití slunečního záření byla následující roky po zásahu v porovnání s kontrolní plochou vyšší u obou ploch s výchovou. V roce 2021 dosáhla nejvyšších hodnot u plochy s mírným zásahem, v roce 2022 potom u plochy se silným zásahem. V roce 2023 se efektivita využití slunečního záření v podstatě vyrovnala u všech tří zkoumaných variant.

Abstract:

This thesis aimed to compare the stand management options in terms of their effect on the radiation use efficiency in an even-aged, unmixed stand of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst) in the period 2019–2023. The stand is located at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level, i.e. at the lower limit of the ecological valence of Norway spruce. The stand management differed in two variants of stand tending (moderate thinning and strong thinning) and there was also the control variant without applied thinning. The results show that the radiation use efficiency of both thinned plots was higher in the following years after the thinning compared to the control variant. In 2021, the highest values were reached in the area with moderate thinning, and in 2022, the highest values were reached in the area with strong thinning. In 2023, the radiation use efficiency was essentially equal for all tree plots studied.
