COVID and gender impacts on the labor market

Abstract:

Začátek diplomové práce je zaměřen na změny HDP České republiky vlivem pandemie spolu se srovnáním s finanční krizí 2008, a jakým způsobem reagoval trh. Rozsah práce byl zacílen převážně na ženy, jakým způsobem během pandemie zvládaly své pracovní povinnosti spolu s péčí o děti při uzavírání školských zařízeních. Zda více přicházeli o pracovní místa, a jakým způsobem řešily finanční situaci. Další část se zabývá práci z domu, jestli lidé s vyšším vzděláním měli možnost pracovat z domu více nebo méně, zda přicházeli o pracovní místa během pandemie a jak se vyvíjela nezaměstnanost. Práce je zacílena na odvětví pohostinství, služeb, cestovního ruchu a stavebnictví, které bylo vlivem pandemie nejvíc zasaženo. Praktická část je řešena formou kvantitativního dotazníkového šetření. Analyzuje, jestli zůstaly s dětmi více ženy, jakým způsobem se muži staví k péči o své děti a zda všechny povinnosti zůstaly jenom na ženách. Dále se zaměřuje na práci z domu, jak byla efektivní, kdo více zůstával s dětmi doma a sladění soukromého a pracovního života.

Abstract:

The begining of the thesis evaluated the impact of the pandemic on the change in the GDP of Czech Republic and compared it with the global financial crisis of 2008 while also highlighting the market response to the ongoing situation. One of the key objectives of the thesis is to study how women managed their work responsibilities during the pandemic, especially when their duties were increased due to schools being closed because of the restrictions set by the government. Major questions to be answered included- Did women lost their jobs? If yes, how did they managed financially? The following section of the thesis discusses the concept of work from home (WFH) in terms of, whether individuals who were highly qualified got preference in getting the opportunity to WFH or whether they lost their jobs and enhanced the unemployment rates. The scope of the work includes the industries that were mostly impacted by the pandemic such as hospitality, travel and tourism, construction, and service sector. Quantitative questionnaire survey method is used to solve the practical part of the thesis. This section analyses the situation of the women with respect to responsibilities at home and if they received support from men with taking care of the family. While evaluating the effectiveness of WFH, the report focuses on identifying who stayed more with the children and how work-life balance was impacted.
