An Annotated Translation of a Part of Boris Akunin's Novel "Lyubovnica smerti" (She Lover of Death)

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je adekvátní překlad vybrané části románu „Ljubovnica smerti“ současného ruského spisovatele Borise Akunina, jeho analýza a komentář. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. V praktické části se nicméně nachází některé teoretické poznatky doplněné o praktické ukázky z přeložené části románu. Teoretická část je zaměřená na specifika uměleckého překladu a postup překladatelovy práce, dále je představen život a dílo Borise Akunina a jeho autorský styl. V praktické části se nachází samotný překlad vybrané části románu a jeho analýza s komentáři. Práce se zaměřuje na překladové transformace obecně, dále na problematiku vlastních jmen, překlad frazeologismů atd.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with an annotated translation of a part of Boris Akunin´s detective novel. The aim of this diploma thesis is an adequate translation of a part of the novel „Lyubovnica smerti“ and its analysis with commentaries of problematic parts of the translation. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. Nevertheless, some theoretical aspects, accompanied by practical examples from the translation, are also found in the practical part. The theoretical part is focused on a theory of translation of prose and a Boris Akunin´s life, work and author´s style. In the practical part there is the translation itself followed by analysis and commentaries of some translation problems such as proper names, idioms etc.
