In Praise of Folly

Abstract:

The aim of my bachelor thesis is to illustrate the literary work of Erasmus of Rotterdam "Praise of Folly". This book because it inspired me with its timeless content, which, although over 500 years old, is still up to date and applicable in present. The main idea of the work is the author's idea that all the happiness in man's life comes from the craziness. He expresses this idea via the narrator: "Goddess of Folly". I tried to respond to the themes discussed in the book by my own graphic works and bring my own perspective into them. The result of my work is a series of graphics created by intaglio printing techniques that are supposed to work as stand-alone but also as a whole. I decided for classic graphic technique - a line etching, which I consider matching this book perfectly.

Abstract:

Cieľom mojej bakalárskej práce je ilustrovať literárne dielo Erazma Rotterdamského "Chvála bláznivosti". Túto knihu som si zvolila preto, lebo ma nadchla svojím nadčasovým obsahom, ktorý, aj keď má viac ako 500 rokov, je stále aktuálny a aplikovateľný do tejto doby. Hlavnou ideou diela je autorova myšlienka, že všetko šťastie v živote človeka pramení z bláznivosti. Túto myšlienku vyjadruje pomocou rozprávačky "Bohyne Bláznivosti." Autorskými grafikami sa snažím reagovať na témy rozoberané v knihe a vniesť do nich svoj osobitý rukopis. Výsledkom mojej práce je séria grafík vytvorená hĺbkotlačovými technikami, ktoré majú fungovať samostatne, ale aj ako celok. Zvolila som klasickú grafickú techniku - čiarový lept, ktorá mi prišla vhodná k tejto téme.
