Affective component of classroom management in teaching English to adolescents and adult students

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se blíže zabývá problematikou řízení procesů ve třídě s důrazem na odbornou přípravu učitelů na tuto roli. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a empirickou část pro ověření teoretických závěrů. Teoretická část práce je rozdělena na dvě základní části, a to je klima třídy obecně a učitel a jeho role při utváření klimatu třídy. Tyto dvě části jsou dále děleny na několik odborných okruhů. První část je věnována rozdělení vzdělávání pro skupinu adolescentů a skupinu dospělých studentů, specifikům týkajícím se jazykové výuky a podrobnému popisu řady aspektů třídního klimatu. Druhá část je věnována osobě a osobnosti učitele, jeho hlavním rolím a potřebným kompetencím ve vztahu k řízení třídy. Cílem empirické části práce je ověřit pomocí polostrukturovaného rozhovoru, jakým způsobem se učitelé vyrovnávají s potřebami řízení školní třídy nebo skupiny studentů, jakým způsobem zvládají konkrétní situace v této roli, a jak byly na tuto roli „manažera“ připraveni v rámci pregraduální přípravy. V závěru jsou posouzena všechna zjištění a formulována doporučení pro učitele jak při řízení třídy postupovat a navržena doporučení pro fázi pregraduální přípravy na povolání učitele.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the specifics of classroom management with emphasis on the professional training of teachers for this role. This thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical parts. The empirical segment examines the theoretical conclusions. The theoretical part is divided into two basic sections; the atmosphere of the classroom in general and the teacher in his role while creating the classroom atmosphere. These two parts are further divided into several specific subtopics. The first part deals with the education of both adolescent and adult students, and more specifically with aspects related to language teaching and provides a detailed description of various aspects of classroom atmosphere. The second part deals with the teacher's persona and personality, his major roles and necessary competence in connection with classroom management. The goal of the empirical part is to examine how teachers deal with management of a school classroom or management of a group of students and their needs, how they deal with concrete situations in their role and how they were prepared for their role as a "manager" during postgraduate studies. All this is conducted through semi-structured interviews. The final section of this thesis assesses all the findings and offers recommendations for teachers as to how to deal with classroom management. It also offers suggestions related to postgraduate preparation for the teacher's profession.
