Preparedness and awareness of primary school teachers for a pupil with diabetes

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tím, jak jsou učitelé informováni o onemocnění diabetes mellitus a zároveň připraveni na edukaci žáka s tímto onemocněním ve své třídě. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí – teoretická a praktická. V teoretické části jsou vysvětleny po-jmy, které se této problematiky týkají. Praktická část obsahuje výzkum, který byl prove-den u studentů a studentek Učitelství pro 1. stupeň na MU v Brně a učitelích na 1. stupni ZŠ na pěti vybraných brněnských školách. Cílem tohoto výzkumu je zjistit, jak se učitelé, a budoucí učitelé, orientují v této problematice. Ve svém výzkumném šetření jsem došla k závěru, že ve většině otázek nedokážou respondenti v dostatečném počtu (alespoň 80 % z nich) správně zodpovědět otázky týkající se diabetu, a tudíž jejich informovanost je nedostatečná. V návaznosti na toto zjištění byl vytvořen list se základními informacemi pro každého pedagoga, do jehož třídy nastoupí žák s diabetem. List je vložen v přílohách mé diplomové práce.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis examines how teachers are informed about the disease diabetes melli-tus and at the same time how prepared they are to educate a student with this disease in this class. The thesis is divided into two parts – theoretical and practical. In the practical part, I explained the main concepts that are important to the disease diabetes mellitus. The practical part contains a research that was carried out among students of the Primary School Teacher training at the MU in Brno and teachers at the 5 chosen primary schools in Brno. The aim of this research is to find out, how the teachers, and the future teachers, orient themselves in the issue. In my research, I came to the conclusion that in most questions, a sufficient number of respondents (at least 80% of them) cannot correctly answer the questions related to dia-betes, and therefore their awareness is insufficient. Following this finding, a sheet with basic information was created for every teacher whose class a student with diabetes will join. The letter is included in the attachments of my diploma thesis.
