The Connection between the Low Back Pain and the Erectile Dysfunction in Men Above the Age of 50

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjištění možného vztahu erektilní dysfunkce a bolestí spodní části zad u mužů po 50. roce života. V teoretické části jsou představeny tři části - low back pain (LBP), erektilní dysfunkce (ED) a vztah low back pain a erektilní dysfunkce. Praktická část se zabývá současným výskytem LBP a ED u mužů ve věku 50 a více let. Dále byly zkoumány čtyři rizikové faktory podílející se na vzniku LBP a ED - věk, pohybová aktivita, sedavé zaměstnání a body mass index. Pomocí dotazníkového šetření, který obsahuje zároveň i dotazník sexuálního zdraví muže IIEF-5, byla získaná data od mužů starších třiceti pěti let. Dotazník byl předložen probandům v období od 9/2022 do 12/2022 online formou, kdy bylo osloveno celkem padesát mužů. Pro zpracování dat byl použit nástroj MS Excel office 365, a následně byla data převedena do prostředí Power BI Desktop. Výsledky ukázaly, že muži nad 50 let trpící LBP jsou více ohroženi rozvojem ED. Zároveň dotazníkové šetření prokázalo, že korelace LBP a ED se zvyšuje s věkem a nižší pohybovou aktivitou. Nebylo prokázáno, že by sedavé zaměstnání a vyšší BMI zvyšovalo riziko rozvoje LBP a ED.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on the connection between the low back pain and the erectile dysfunction in men above the age of 50. In the theoretical part three parts are presented - low back pain (LBP), erectile dysfunction (ED) and the relationship between the low back pain and the erectile dysfunction. The main aim of the bachelor thesis was evaluated the prevalence of LBP and ED in men aged 50 years and older. In the practical part there were examinated four risk factors involved in the development of LBP and ED - age, physical activity, sedentary occupation, and body mass index. Using a questionnaire survey that also includes the IIEF-5 male sexual health questionnaire, data was collected from men over the age of 35 years. The questionnaire was provided to probands between 9/2022 and 12/2022 in an online format, when a total of fifty men were approached. MS Excel office 365 was used to process the data, and then the data was converted into Power BI Desktop environment. The results showed that men over 50 years of age suffering from LBP are more endangered by development of ED. The research also showed that the correlation between LBP and ED increased with age and lower physical activity. Sedentary occupation and higher BMI have not been shown to increase the risk of developing LBP and ED.
