Čeleď Pedaliaceae řadící se do řádu Lamiales, popsána v roce 1810 Robertem Brownem, je významnou součástí tropické flóry, které nalezneme především v Africe, jihovýchodní Asii a Austrálií. Čeleď samotná, čítá na 50 druhů a dosud není příliš blízce prozkoumaná, vyjma rod Sesamum a jeho zástupce Sesamum Indicum L., který patří mezi nejvýznamnější plodiny pro potravinové účely. The family Pedaliaceae belonging to the order Lamiales, described in 1810 by Robert Brown, is an important part of the tropical flora, which can be found mainly in Africa, Sou-theast Asia, and Australia.
