Resolving ethical dilemmas

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zamýšlí nad využíváním etických principů Etického metakodexu EFPA při řešení etických dilemat studenty oboru Psychologie Filozofické fakulty Masarykovy univerzity. Zaměřuje se na významné teorie morálního vývoje a výklad pojmů etika, morálka, proces rozhodování, etický problém versus etické dilema, etické kodexy a etické principy. Poskytuje rozbor Etického metakodexu EFPA, principů v něm uvedených a jejich specifik. V empirické části zjišťuje znalost etických kodexů psychologie studenty psychologie, schopnost studentů psychologie vybírat etické principy pro řešení etických dilemat a co ovlivňuje průběh rozhodovacího procesu při výběru etických principů studenty psychologie pro řešení etických dilemat. Pro porovnání výsledků získaných dat byl výzkumný soubor (N = 57) rozdělen na nižší a vyšší ročníky a na studenty studující pouze obor psychologie a studenty studující i další obory. Výsledky výzkumu sice nepřinesly zjištění zobecnitelná pro celou populaci studentů psychologie Filozofické fakulty Masarykovy univerzity, přesto věřím, že tato práce přispěla k úsilí o prohloubení etického povědomí studentů psychologie a upozornila na nedostatek poskytovaných podnětů k etické diskusi v akademickém prostředí.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the use of ethical principles contained in the Meta - Code of Ethics EFPA in addressing ethical dilemmas of psychology students, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. It focuses on the important theory of moral development and interpretation of the terms ethics, morality, decision-making, ethical problem versus ethical dilemma, ethical codes and ethical principles. It provides an analysis of the Meta - Code of Ethics EFPA principles contained therein and their specifics. In the empirical part it examines the knowledge of ethical codes of psychology students, their ability to choose ethical principles in dealing with ethical dilemmas and factors influencing the decision-making process when choosing ethical principles to solve ethical dilemmas. To compare the results, the obtained data from a research group (N=57) have been divided into higher and lower classes, and distinguishing students of psychology and other fields. The results of the research did not produce generally applicable findings to the entire population of psychology students, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. Nevertheless, I believe that this work has contributed to the deepening of ethical awareness of psychology students and highlight the lack of incentives provided to the ethical debate in the academic environment.
