Greek Civil War, its Context and Demographical Consequences

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou občanské války v Řecku a nepokojů na Balkáně ve 40. letech 20. století. Konkrétně se zaměřuje na historické a bezprostřední příčiny konfliktu – využití "mocenského vakua", které po sobě zanechaly německé a italské oddíly po konci okupace, zkoumá roli externích aktérů – Velké Británie a USA – a jejich snahy o mediaci a kontrolu vývoje konfliktu a situace v regionu. Závěrečná část se věnuje socio-politickým dopadům války na obyvatelstvo a osudům "zachráněných" dětí a uprchlíků.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the civil war in Greece and unrest in the Balkans in the 40th 20th century. Specifically, it focuses on the historical and immediate causes of the conflict - the use of "power vacuum" left behind by German and Italian troops after the end of occupation, examines the role of external actors - Great Britain and the U.S. - and their efforts to control the development of the conflict and the situation in region. The final section deals with socio-political impact of war on people and the fate of "rescued" children and refugees..
