Alternative and augmentative communication in nursing homes

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá orientací pečujícího personálu domovů pro seniory v problematice alternativní a augmentativní komunikace a využíváním doplňujících a náhradních forem komunikace u osob s narušenou komunikační schopností z řad klientů domovů pro seniory. Hlavním cílem diplomové práce je prozkoumat danou oblast, zjistit, jak personál domovů pro seniory komunikuje s klienty s narušenou komunikační schopností. Teoretická část je na základě studia odborné literatury zaměřena na vymezení základních pojmů týkajících se seniorského věku, komunikace jako takové, specifikům komunikace se seniory, možnostem využití alternativní a augmentativní komunikace u seniorů s narušenou komunikační schopností. Dále se zabývá možnostmi rezidenční péče o seniory. Empirická část má za cíl formou kvantitativního výzkumu, zrealizovaného formou dotazníkového šetření, zodpovědět výzkumné otázky, které se týkají povědomí pečujícího personálu v domovech pro seniory o narušené komunikační schopnosti a možnostech využití alternativní a augmentativní komunikace.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the orientation of caring staff of nursing homes in the issue of alternative and augmentative communication and the use of complementary and alternative forms of communication for people with impaired communication skills from among the clients of nursing homes. The main goal of the diploma thesis is to examine the given area, to find out how the staff of homes for the elderly communicate with clients with impaired communication skills. The theoretical part is based on the study of literature focused on defining the basic concepts of senior age, communication as such, the specifics of communication with seniors, the possibility of using alternative and augmentative communication in seniors with impaired communication skills. It also deals with the possibilities of residential care for the elderly. The empirical part aims to answer research questions in the form of quantitative research, conducted in the form of a questionnaire survey, which relate to the awareness of caring staff in nursing homes about impaired communication skills and the possibilities of using alternative and augmentative communication.
