Dance in the time of pandemic: The case of the Czech dance scene

Abstract:

Tato diplomová bakalářská práce se zabývá novými médii a jejich zapojením na české taneční scéně v době pandemie Covid-19. Tedy v době, kdy byly veškeré kulturní instituce zavřené a diváci nemohli sledovat představení, jak byli zvyklí. Zkoumá, jakým způsobem divadla a taneční festivaly fungovaly v době, kdy nebylo možné pozvat diváky do vnitřních prostor. Dále se práce zaměřuje na konkrétní instituci, kterou je pražské divadlo Ponec. Přináší postřehy z prostředí tohoto tanečního divadla, jakým způsobem se právě toto divadlo s náročnou situací vypořádalo a porovnává jej s jinými institucemi. Součástí práce je rozhovor s ředitelkou divadla Ponec o tom, jaký byl jeho provoz v době, kdy musela být budova veřejnosti uzavřena. Dále jsou součástí práce tři rozhovory, dva z nich byly zrealizovány s externími zaměstnanci divadla a třetí s umělkyní, která s Poncem spolupracuje.

Abstract:

This bachelor‘s thesis was written on the topic of the new media and their involvement in the Czech dance scene at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. That is, when all the cultural institutions were closed and the audience could not watch the show as they were accustomed to. It explores the way theatres and dance festivals worked at a time when it was impossible to invite spectators into indoor venues. The work also focuses on a specific institution, which is the Ponec Theatre in Prague. It brings insights from the background of this dance theatre, how this theatre has dealt with the difficult situation and compares it with other institutions. The work includes an interview with the manager of the Ponec Theatre about how its operation was at the time the building had to be closed to the public. Part of these thesis are another three interviews, two of which were carried out with external theatre staff and a third with an artist who works with Ponec.
