Use of the Buteyko method in pediatric patients with asthma

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na zjištění účinnosti metody jako alternativního přístupu ke zlepšení symptomů astmatu u dětí. Sleduje možnosti aplikace cvičení dle Buteyko metody pro děti ve věku 5-6 let se zaměřením na zadržení dechu. Cvičení probíhalo v dětské léčebně v Říčanech tři týdny s pěti vybranými respondenty s diagnózou průduškové astma. Při každodenním procvičování cviků zaznamenávali rodiče respondentů výsledky a subjektivní pocity do záznamového archu. Byly provedeny dvě varianty cvičení - říkanka a lov perel, z nichž si rodiče s dětmi vybrali tu preferovanou. Obě varianty se týkaly zadržení dechu, lišily se pouze formou provedení. Hodnocení výsledků cvičení bylo založeno na aritmetickém průměru a pozorování pokroku. Výsledky se mezi jednotlivými respondenty výrazně lišily. Pozitivní efekt cvičení byl u tří respondentů, zlepšení klinických příznaků včetně redukce sípání a kašle bylo zaznamenáno u dvou respondentů a snížení chrápání během spánku u jednoho respondenta.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on establishing the effectiveness of this method as an alternative approach to improving asthma symptoms in children and the possibility of applying exercises according to the Buteyko method for children aged 5-6 years with a focus on breath holding. The exercise took place in a children's hospital in Říčany for three weeks with five selected respondents diagnosed with bronchial asthma. During the daily practice of the exercises, the parents of the respondents recorded the results and subjective feelings in a recording sheet. Two variants of the exercise were performed - a nursery rhyme and a pearl hunt, from which parents and children chose the preferred one. Both variants related to holding the breath, they differed only in the form of execution. Evaluation of exercise results was based on arithmetic mean and observation of progress. The results varied significantly between individual respondents. There was a positive effect of exercise in three respondents, an improvement in clinical symptoms including a reduction in wheezing and coughing was noted in two respondents and a reduction in snoring during sleep in one respondent.
