The Reformation in Jihlava (1522–1628): participants and manifestations of confessionalization in a town

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá procesy reformace a konfesionalizace v moravském královském městě Jihlavě v letech 1522–1628. Věnuje se nejdůležitějším aktérům náboženského dění v daném období, popisuje průběh reformace ve městě a táže se, v jakých oblastech se následně prosadil vliv konfese (jedná se o oblasti církevní a městské správy, školství či života městských obyvatel, zejména jejich vzájemných sporů). V tomto rámci dále zkoumá záměry jednotlivých aktérů, metody prosazování jejich vlastní náboženské politiky a vzájemné interakce těchto politik. Studie částečně vychází z konceptu konfesionalizace, který vznikl v německé historiografii, přičemž je současně inspirativní pro české bádání. V závěru se práce snaží zasadit poznatky do širšího kontextu náboženského vývoje v českých zemích a v Evropě.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the processes of reformation and confessionalization in the Moravian royal town of Jihlava from 1522 to 1628. The thesis studies the most important participants of religious events in the period, describes the course of the Reformation in the town and asks in which areas the confession started to play a crucial part (these are areas of ecclesiastical and municipal administration, education and life of urban residents, especially their mutual disputes). In this context, the thesis further examines the intentions of individual participants, methods of promoting their own religious policies and mutual interaction of these policies. The study is partly based on the concept of confessionalization, which originated in German historiography, while it is also inspiring for Czech research. The conclusions are then put into the broader context of religious development in the Czech Lands and Europe.
