Behavior of U, Th, K and Cs in the recent sediments of the Oslava river

Abstract:

V roce 2005 byly v rámci výzkumného záměru Inchembiol letecky detekovány U-anomálie v údolí řeky Oslavy a to na jejím středním toku mezi městy Náměšť nad Oslavou a Oslavany. Vrámci předkládané práce bylo provedeno terénní a laboratorní gamaspektrometrické studium povodňových hlín řeky Oslavy ve výše zmíněném úseku. Toto studium potvrdilo přítomnost U-anomálií, detekovalo však ještě mnohem výraznější anomálie thoria, přičemž thoriové anomálie letecky detekovány nebyly. Za zdroj byly posléze označeny durbachity Třebíčského masivu. Sledované prvky jsou tedy, až na Cesium, vázány pevně v klastech minerálů derivovaných z Třebíčského masivu. Rozdíl mezi leteckou a laboratorní respektive terénní gamaspektrometrií nebyl jednoznačně objasněn. Z řady teorií se jako nejpravděpodobnější jeví ovlivnění měření okolními nízce radioaktivními horninami, navíc umocněné strmým reliéfem údolí.

Abstract:

Within the project of Inchembiol in 2005 the air geophyzics detected the U anomaly in the Oslava river valley; especially on its middle stream between Náměšť nad Oslavou and Oslavany. The gamaspectrometric field and laboratory measurements of flood-loams of the above mentioned river were carried out within the scope of this thesis. These measurements confirmed the U anomaly but also detected even more significant anomaly of thorium which actually was not at all detected by the air measurements. The durbachits of Třebičský masiv were then identified as the source of both anomalies. Monitored elements, with the exception of cesium, are expected to be firmly bound to the minerals originating in Třebíčský masiv. However, the difference in measurements between air and field or laboratory measurements could not be and have not been easily clarified. The influence of the surrounding low radioactive rocks, intensified by the steep topography of the valley, could be possibly accepted as the most probable explanation.
