Motivation and job satisfaction of women in forestry

Abstract:

V důsledku feminizace a diverzifikace různých pracovních prostředí napříč všemi obory, dochází ke zvyšování zastoupení žen zejména v maskulinních oborech. Ženy v těchto oborech musí velmi často čelit různým překážkám, včetně diskriminace na genderové úrovni, které mohou ovlivňovat nejen jejich pracovní spokojenost. V této souvislosti je nezbytné sledovat oblasti motivace pro výběr a setrvání v tomto oboru. Hlavním cílem této práce je zmapovat důležité motivační faktory pro výběr oboru lesnictví z pohledu žen v návaznosti na bariéry či překážky, kterým při vykonávání zaměstnání v tomto oboru ženy čelí. Kvalitativní výzkum byl proveden formou rozhovoru. Odpovědi poskytnuté od 9 žen zaměstnaných v oboru lesnictví byly analyzovány pomocí tematické analýzy. Výzkum identifikoval několik faktorů motivace pro volbu práce v lesnictví. Kromě rodinných vlivů a osobního vztahu k přírodě hrál významnou roli také zájem o myslivost. Silný osobní vztah k přírodě a lesu je spojen s emocionální vazbou a hlubokým zájmem o ochranu přírody. Výsledky naznačují, že všechny zkoumané respondentky pevně rozhodly se již během studia setrvat v oboru lesnictví. Jejich rozhodnutí je podporováno osobním zájmem o práci v tomto odvětví a vědomím jeho důležitosti. Emocionální vazba k přírodě a lesnictví je pro ně klíčovou motivací, která je spojena s jejich rozhodnutím zůstat v oboru. Lesní práce tak pro ně není pouze povoláním, ale i životním stylem a zdrojem osobního naplnění. Výsledky též ukázaly, že většina respondentek vyjádřila spokojenost se svým současným zaměstnáním, což je podporováno rozmanitostí práce, flexibilitou prostředí a možností pracovat v terénu. Respondentky také vnímají práci v lesnictví jako životní styl a zdroj osobního naplnění. Navzdory pozitivním výsledkům byly identifikovány i určité překážky, jako je nedostatek podpory v profesním růstu a předsudky spojené s pohlavím. V praktické části nalezneme podrobnou intepretaci výsledků výzkumu.

Abstract:

As a result of the feminisation and diversification of different work environments across all industries, there is an increase in the representation of women, particularly in masculine industries. Women in these fields very often have to face various obstacles, including gender discrimination, which may not only affect their job satisfaction. In this context, it is essential to look at the motivations for choosing and staying in this field. The main objective of this paper is to map the important motivational factors for choosing the forestry sector from the perspective of women in relation to the barriers or obstacles that women face in pursuing employment in this sector. The qualitative research was conducted in the form of interview. The responses provided from 9 women employed in the forestry sector were analysed using thematic analysis. The research identified several motivational factors for choosing to work in forestry. In addition to family influences and personal relationship with nature, interest in hunting played a significant role. A strong personal relationship with nature and the forest is associated with emotional attachment and a deep interest in conservation. The results suggest that all the respondents surveyed made a firm decision to remain in the forestry field during their studies. Their decision is supported by a personal interest in working in the sector and an awareness of its importance. The emotional attachment to nature and forestry is a key motivation for them, which is linked to their decision to stay in the field. For them, forestry is not only a profession, but also a lifestyle and a source of personal fulfilment. The results also showed that the majority of respondents expressed satisfaction with their current employment, which is supported by the variety of work, the flexibility of the environment and the opportunity to work in the field. Respondents also perceived working in forestry as a lifestyle and a source of personal fulfilment. Despite the positive results, some barriers were identified, such as lack of support for career development and gender bias. In the practical part we find a detailed interpretation of the research results.
