MUDr. Antonín Špidlen - the mayor of Semily (1889-1910 and 1912-1913)

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá výraznou osobností semilské historie MUDr. Antonínem Špidlenem. Hodnotí jeho přínos pro rozvoj města v době, kdy Semily prožívaly velký stavební boom díky rychle rozvíjejícímu se průmyslu. V první části sleduje jeho osobní život. Pozornost si zaslouží jeho rodina, studia na jičínském gymnáziu a pražské univerzitě a následně lékařská praxe. Ve stěžejní druhé části se práce věnuje Špidlenově působení ve vedení města Semily a následně nejvýznamnějším krokům, které během svého politického života učinil. Největší důraz je kladen na období jeho starostování v Semilech (1889-1910 a 1912-1913).

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with an outstanding person from the history of Semily - MUDr. Antonín Špidlen. The thesis evaluates the mayor´s contribution to the development of the town at the time of its great construction boom thanks to industrial progress. The first part of the thesis depicts mayor´s personal life. It is focused on his family, his studies at grammar school in Jičín and at the university in Prague and next on his medical practise. The second part, which is the core part of the thesis, deals with Špidlen´s activity in the local council in Semily and with his most important decisions made during his political career. The main focus is on the years 1889-1910 and 1912-1913 when Špidlen was the mayor of Semily.
