Economic impacts of obesity focusing on the increasing incidence of diabetes

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zhodnocení ekonomických dopadů rostoucího výskytu obezity a popsání častých onemocnění, která jsou s obezitou spojována, především tedy onemocněním diabetes mellitus. V teoretické části se práce zabývá popisem obezity a jejích rizikových faktorů. Praktická část se zaměřuje na onemocnění diabetes mellitus 2. typu a znázorňuje vývoj počtu pacientů a nákladů na jejich léčbu v posledních letech především na území světa a také na území České republiky. V závěru práce jsou popsány možné státní zásahy, které by měly přispět k budoucímu snížení nejen počtu diabetiků, ale i nákladovosti jejich léčby.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is assessment of economic impacts due to increasing prevalence of obesity and describing frequent illnesses which are connected with the obesity, especially diabetes mellitus. Theoretical part describes obesity and its risk factors. Practical part focuses on diabetes mellitus type 2 and represents trend of number of diabetics and costs of their treatment during previous years in the world and in the Czech Republic area. In the final part are described possible interventions that could contribute to future decrease of amount of diabetics and also costs of the treatment.
