The Aspects of Clarinet and Saxophone Changing

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o problematice střídání klarinetových a saxofonových nástrojů a řeší otázku příbuznosti klarinetu a saxofonu z hlediska jejich společných znaků a principů hry za účelem efektivního využití v praktické technice střídání. Je zaměřena také na popis a objasnění příčin obtíží a častých chyb spojených s rozdílnými znaky obou nástrojů a odlišnostmi ve způsobu hry z důvodu odstranění nežádoucích vlivů při přechodu z klarinetu na saxofon. V první části je popisován mechanismus hry a charakterizována otázka příbuznosti a akustických principů obou nástrojů. Druhá část je věnována výčtu společných a rozdílných znaků v přehledu mechanismu hry na jednoplátkový dechový nástroj a objasnění techniky střídání klarinetu a saxofonu. Cílem práce je nalezení a vystižení takových způsobů hry na klarinet a saxofon, které umožňují jejich bezprostřední výměnu při zachování nejvyšší možné kvality všech parametrů hry na oba nástroje. Hlavní myšlenkou této práce je stručná charakteristika aspektů střídání klarinetu a saxofonu. Získané poznatky lze využít k vytvoření rozšířené koncepce metodiky hry na klarinet určené pro pedagogy ZUŠ i pokročilé hráče na klarinet, neboť by zahrnovala jak bezproblémový přechod z klarinetu na saxofon jako příbuzný nástroj, tak aspekty praktické výměny těchto nástrojů při hře.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of alternation of clarinet and saxophone instruments and with issue of clarinet and saxophone relatedness in terms of their common features and principles of play for effective use in practical technique of alternation. It also describes and explains the causes of involved difficulties and frequent mistakes associated with the different features of both instruments and the differences in playing them with the goal to eliminate unwanted effects of switching from clarinet to saxophone. The first part describes the playing technique and characterizes the relatedness and acoustic principles of both instruments. The second part is devoted to the list of common and different features in the overview of single-reed woodwind instrument playing techniques and the clarification of the technique of alternation of clarinet and saxophone. The aim of the paper is to find and describe clarinet and saxophone playing techniques that allow their immediate changing while preserving the highest possible quality of all parameters of playing both instruments. The main idea of this paper is to briefly characterize the aspects of clarinet and saxophone changing. The acquired knowledge can be used to create an expanded concept of clarinet methodology for primary music school teachers and for advanced clarinet players, as it would involve both a seamless transition from clarinet to saxophone as a related instrument, as well as aspects of practical changing of these instruments in everyday practical use.
