Colonialism, the Subsequent Multiculturalisation of Britain, and Its Effect on British Cuisine

Abstract:

In this thesis, an analysis and research of British history in relation to cuisine is conducted. This thesis is focused on the history of colonialism and subsequent multiculturalisation of Britain and its significant impact on the evolution of British cuisine. The aim of this thesis is to answer the question of whether British cuisine has been influenced by foreign authorities, especially India, and if so, to what extent. The first part of the thesis deals with the culinary history of Britain and the results of culinary traditions, ingredients and dishes, starting from the sixteenth century. The second part includes contemporary Britain, where the reader learns more about the current culinary situation of the country. The last part features a conclusion, in which the results of the research are summarised.

Abstract:

V této práci je dokončena analýza a výzkum britské historie ve vztahu ke kulinářství. Práce se zaměřuje na historii kolonialismu a následné multikulturalizace Británie, a její významný vliv na vývoj britské kuchyně. Cílem této práce je odpovědět na otázku, zda-li byla britská kuchyně ovlivněna zahraničními mocnostmi, zejména Indií, a pokud ano, do jaké miry. První část práce se zabývá kulinářskou historií Británie a výsledky kulinářských tradic, ingrediencí a pokrmů, počínaje šestnáctým stoletím. Druhá část obsahuje moderní Británii, kde se čtenář dozví vice o současné kulinářské situaci země. Poslední část obsahuje závěr, v němž jsou shrnuty výsledky výzkumu.
