Impact of parental expectation on pupils' motivation and grades

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá očekáváním rodičů a jeho vlivem na motivaci a školní výsledky žáka. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. První část se věnuje rodině a to především jejímu vlivu na žáka, jsou zde také uvedeny funkce rodiny a její vztah se školou. Není zde opomenuta ani motivace, která je popsána ve vztahu k učení a následuje popis jejího základního dělení. Druhá část práce je nejprve zaměřena na metodologii realizovaného kvantitativního výzkumu a poté rozebírá výsledky výzkumného šetření, které byly získány prostřednictvím dotazníků. Popisuji zde, jaká jsou očekávání rodičů týkající se známek a budoucího studia jejich dítěte a jak žáci tato očekávání vnímají. Také zde zmiňuji pohled žáků na jejich úsilí a motivaci k učení. Cílem empirické části práce je na základě výpovědí obou skupin respondentů prozkoumat souvislost mezi rodičovským očekáváním, známkami žáka a také jeho motivací k učení.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the parental expectations and their impact on the pupils` motivation and results at school. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the family and especially on its impact on pupils; the family functions and relations between school and family are also dealt with there. It also concerns motivation to study: the description is followed by its basic division. The second part of the thesis is focused on the methodology of the implemented quantitative research followed by the analysis of the outcomes of the questionnaire survey. I describe what the parental expectations concerning school grades and future study plans of their children are and how these are perceived by the children. I also describe the pupils` view on their effort and the motivation to study. The objective of the empirical part of the thesis is to examine the connection between the parental expectations, school grades of the pupil and his/her motivation to study - based on statements of both the groups of respondents.
