Influence of subject matter on the way of sculpting art works of Mathias Bernhard Braun and his workshop

Abstract:

Předmětem této bakalářské diplomové práce je zkoumání vlivu námětu na způsob zpracování sochařských děl Matyáše Bernarda Brauna a jeho dílny. Po objasnění klíčového pojmu „Braunovo dílo“ byl vytvořen přehled Braunových zákazníků s jejich vazbami na náměty sochařských děl a uvedeny i některé známé předlohové práce. Pro snadnější práci s tématem bylo Braunovo dílo rozděleno do tematických skupin. V souvislosti s náměty Braunova díla byl učiněn pokus o objasnění, jaké typy námětů mistra nejvíce přitahovaly. Poté byla provedena analýza vztahu mezi námětem a způsobem jeho následného ztvárnění. V zájmu objektivního posouzení vlivu námětu na způsob zpracování Braunových děl bylo přihlédnuto i k působení jiných faktorů. Po vyhodnocení všech relevantních poznatků byl vysloven závěr, že vliv námětu na způsob zpracování Braunových sochařských děl je skutečně prokazatelný, neměl ovšem konstantní charakter a z dlouhodobého hlediska neustále klesal v závislosti na jiných faktorech.

Abstract:

Aim of this thesis is to research the influence of the subject matter on the way of sculpting the art works of Mathias Bernhard Braun and his workshop. After clarifying the key concept of the "Braun's artwork" an overview of Braun’s customers with their ties to sculpture works subject matters has been worked out and some known model works have been mentioned. To make the working with the topic easier the subject matter of the Braun's artwork has been classified into some groups. Regarding the subject matter of the Braun's artwork there was an effort made in this thesis to reveal which types of the subject matter attracted the master the most. Then the analysis itself has been carried out; more or less hidden connections between the subject matter and the way of its subsequent rendering have been researched. In order to objectively assess the influence of the subject matter on the way of sculpting the Braun's art works even the impact of other factors has been taken into consideration. After analyzing all of the relevant findings it has been concluded that the influence of the subject matter on the way of sculpting the Braun's sculptural art works is truly verifiable; however it was not of a constant nature and from a long-term perspective it was continuously decreasing depending on other factors.
