Issues in Translation of Modern Child and Youth Literature on the Example of the Books by Linda de Haan and Max Velthuijs

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce srovnává dětskou literaturu a literaturu pro mládež na základě jejich historie charakteristik v rámci České republiky a Nizozemska. Které knihy se řadí do jakého typu literatury a souvisí toto rozdělení nejak s kulturními odlištnostmi obou zemí? Jaká témata knih se obvykle překládají? A jak je to s netradičními tématy v české a nizozemské dětské literatuře? Dále se bakalářská práce zabývá bibliografií knih přeložených v letech 2000-2014 z nizozemského do českého překladu. Hlavním cílem práce je problematika překladu v moderní literatuře pro děti a mládež. Autorka bakalářské práce se zaměřila na vybrané problematické aspekty a překladatelské oříšky se kterými se překladatel při své práci setkává jako jsou jména postav, názvy měst, geografické pojmy a frekventované fráze, které rozebírá z úhlu pohledu rozličných možností řešení jejich překladu. Překladatel má za úkol malým čtenářům přiblížit nejen obsah díla ale i vysvětlit kulturní specifika a rozlišnosti. Autorka práce si zvolila pro příkladovou studii knihu Maxe Velthuijse Žabák a cizinec a knihu Lindy de Haan Princ & Princ. Na těchto dvou publikacích pak autorka vysvětluje problematiku překladu a kulturních odlišností v dětském světě.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is divided in into two parts. In the theoretical part the modern child en youth literature based upon their history and characteristics within the Czech Republic and the Netherlands are being copared. Which books belong to each category and does this devision has anything to do with the cultural diferences between both countries? What topics are the most likely to be chosen? And how is it with shocking and unusual plots? The second part of the theory focuses on bibliography of books translated within the years 2000-2014 as a child of youth literature from dutch to czech language. The last subpart of the theoretical part explains the issues and challenges in translation. Cultural differences are put forward as one of the most difficult issues. The topics to be later researched more thorough are: names, geographical terms and others. The second practical part focuses on the case study about the two chosen books written by Linda de Haan and Max Velthuijs. It introduces the books at first mostly from the perspective of shocking and unusual topics. Later is explains the practical level of issues in translation with clear examples from the two chosen books.
