The unemployment of young people in the context of childcare in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou nezaměstnanosti mužů a žen v České republice se zaměřením na situaci mladých osob s dětmi na trhu práce. Práce nejprve analyzuje nezaměstnanost ve srovnání s členskými zeměmi Evropské unie. Na základě individuálních dat Výběrového šetření pracovních sil následně sleduje vývoj míry nezaměstnanosti v období let 1995 až 2018 dle vybraných aspektů jako například věková kategorie, délka trvání nezaměstnanosti, územní členění či nejvyšší dosažené vzdělání. V rámci analýzy situace mladých osob žijících ve společné domácnosti s dětmi zkoumá míru nezaměstnanosti, využívání částečných úvazků a typů pracovních úvazků podle věku nejmladšího dítěte v domácnosti, míru zaměstnanosti podle počtu dětí v domácnosti apod. V práci je využit logistický regresní model pro účely kvantifikování vlivu vybraných vysvětlujících proměnných na nezaměstnanost mužů a žen. Rodičovství má na nezaměstnanost mužů a žen zcela odlišný vliv, který se projevuje snižováním nezaměstnanosti mužů a naopak zvyšováním nezaměstnanosti žen. Míra nezaměstnanosti žen žijících s dětmi ve věku 4 až 14 let je během sledovaného období výrazně vyšší než obecná míra nezaměstnanosti žen ve věku 15 až 74 let. Zároveň se však podmínky žen s dětmi na trhu práce zlepšují, v posledních letech se úroveň jejich nezaměstnanosti výrazně snižuje. Zmírňování podmínek pro nárok na rodičovský příspěvek umožnilo zvýšení využívání částečných pracovních úvazků.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of unemployment of men and women in the Czech Republic and focuses on the situation of young people with children in the labour market. The thesis first analyzes unemployment in comparison with the member states of the European Union. Based on individual data from the Labour Force Survey, it subsequently monitors the development of the unemployment rate in the period from 1995 to 2018 according to select aspects such as age category, duration of unemployment, territorial division or highest education reached. As part of the analysis of the situation of young people living in the same household with children, the thesis examines the unemployment rate, the use of part-time work and types of working hours according to the age of the youngest child in the household, the employment rate according to the number of children in the household, etc. The thesis uses a logistic regression model for the purposes of quantification of the impact of select explanatory variables on male and female unemployment. The parenthood has a completely different effect on male and female unemployment, which is reflected in a reduction in male unemployment and, on the contrary, an increase in female unemployment. The unemployment rate of women living with children aged 4 to 14 is significantly higher than the general unemployment rate of women aged 15 to 74 during the period under review. At the same time, however, the conditions of women with children in the labour market are improving and their unemployment rate has decreased significantly in recent years. The softening of conditions for entitlement to parental allowance has made it possible to increase the use of part-time work.
