Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Teaching English to Firefighters“ se věnuje problematice výuky anglického jazyka u specifické skupiny žáků – profesionálních hasičů. I když je vzdělávání profesionálních hasičů v kompetenci Ministerstva vnitra, tématu výuky cizích jazyků se nevěnuje, a proto je tato problematika u nás zcela neprozkoumaná. Výuka této skupiny studentů je jedinečná svou směsí specifik – jedná se o dospělé studenty, jejichž kurz anglického jazyka se zaměřuje na specifické potřeby. Také preferovaný styl učení se odlišuje od běžné skupiny dospělých studentů. Všechny tyto informace, spolu se znalostí vzdělávání profesionálních hasičů v ČR, je třeba znát a použít je při tvorbě studijního plánu a při volbě výukových prostředků tak, aby se dosáhlo cílů v kurze předem stanovených.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis “Teaching English to Firefighters” deals with the issue of teaching English to a specific group of students – professional firefighters. The education and specific preparation of professional firefighters is in the competence of Ministry of Interior, however, the education of foreign language is not included in their training and therefore this field is not explored. Foreign language teaching of this specific group of students is unique in the mix of specifics – it is a group of adult students and their course is a course of English for specific purposes. Also the preferred learning style among professional firefighters has to be taken into consideration. All the above mentioned information, together with knowledge of education process of professional firefighters in the Czech Republic, has to be considered in order to create a good quality course design and in order to select suitable teaching approach and methods so that the course aims and goals are met.
