The thesis presents a sociological analysis of student Majales in Bratislava and Prague in May 1956. These traditional student carnivals, banned since 1948, were turned into playful demonstrations of dissatisfaction with the Communist regime, which, in the end, led to further abolishment of the celebrations until mid-1960s.
