Perception and coping of workload of working people at retirement age

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vnímáním a copingem pracovní zátěže lidí pracujících v důchodovém věku na výše kvalifikovaných pozicích v ČR, který byl zkoumán kvalitativním designem. Zmíněné osoby se potýkají s ubývajícími silami, jež vyplývají ze zhoršující se fyzické kondice a psychických změn vyššího věku. Zároveň mají vůli pracovat a mohou si dovolit kariéru ukončit. Práce má vliv na jejich sociální vztahy a vnímání sebe samotného v kontextu důchodového věku a stáří v kontrastu s prací jako náplní života, která je typické pro produktivní věk. Hlavní témata, která vzešla z vyprávění devíti respondentů pracujících na různých pozicích jsou: kontinutita práce produktivního věku, selekce a proaktivní coping jako dominantní řešení pracovní zátěže. Proaktivní coping se provuje v podobě propracovaného time-managementu. V případě vnímané nadměrné zátěže pomáhá myšlenka na očekávanou penzi získat odstup od stresu a funguje jako coping zaměřený na emoce. Respondenti také zaznamenali několik životních situací, kdy jejich pracovní zátěž naopak vypomohla v copingu nepracovní zátěže. Coping lidí pracujících v důchodovém věku se odvíjí od podpory nejbližších a pracoviště.

Abstract:

Study consider perception of workload and coping of working people at retirement age in white-collar positions in the Czech Republic, which was studied by qualitative method. These people are struggeling with decreasing of strength, that arises from worsening physical condition and psychological changes in the older age. Alongside they are motivated to work and they can afford to finish their career. Work influences their relationships and perception of themselves in the context of retirement, and also influences the perception of old age in contrast to work as content of life; that is typical of the productive age in adulthood. The main topics that arise from the interviewes with nine respondents working in various job positions are: continuity of the job from productive age, selection and proactive coping as a dominant solution to workload. The proactive coping showed in the form of developed time management. In case of perceived high workload, the idea of expected retirement in future helps to gain relief from stress and works as a coping focused on emotions. Respondents reported many life situations, when their work helped them to cope with non-work related stress. Coping of people working in retirement age is related on the support of their family and colleagues.
