Trestání je hluboce zakotveno v lidské společnosti. Dnes si pod pojmem trestat představíme formu ochrany společnosti, pokud bychom však mluvili o trestání s našimi předky, s největší pravděpodobností bychom dostali morbidní popisy mučení a poprav. Punishment is deeply embedded in human society. Today we think of punishing as a form of protecting our society, but if we would have talked about punishment with our ancestors, we would most likely get a morbid descriptions of torture and execution.
