Social and cultural mechanisms of the origin of the Czech movie posters before the year 1989 and after.

Abstract:

Práce se skládá z teoretické a praktické části. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na srovnání tvorby filmového plakátu před rokem 1989 a dnes. Zaměřuje se na tzv. zlatou éru, tedy 60. léta 20. století, kdy tvořili nejvýznamnější autoři a kdy vznikal skutečně kvalitní filmový plakát, který byl specifickým fenoménem v evropském kontextu. V této době se plakát dočkal řady výstav, byl mnohokrát reprodukován, oceňován v soutěžích a stal se také sběratelským artiklem. Neplnil funkci reklamy jako takové, ale byl ukázkou nových výtvarných proudů dostupných všude a všem. Současný plakát k zahraničnímu filmu je pouze přeložen do češtiny a zachovává původní návrh. Současný plakát k českému filmu obsahuje prakticky ty samé znaky jako zahraniční. Producenti českých filmů podlehli chybnému dojmu, že nejlépe potencionálního diváka filmu upoutá fotografie hlavního herce na plakátu a rezignovali na jeho výtvarnou podobu. Na plakátu není prostor pro fantazii, myšlenku, vtip, nápad. Zaniká autentičnost plakátu jako uměleckého díla, je potlačena svébytnost, originalita. Zbývá pouze komerčně účinný produkt bez známek kreativity. Po roce 1989 máme pár příkladů snahy o kvalitní filmový plakát (studio Najbrt), ten ale už prakticky vytváří plakát ke všem českým filmům. Jiní tvůrci prakticky nemají šanci se zviditelnit. Praktická část je zaměřena na pořádání výstav filmového plakátu.

Abstract:

The thesis comprises of two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part compares a production of a movie poster before 1989 and today. The first part of the theoretical part focuses on the 60's. It was so called 'Gold era' of a movie poster. The most significant authors were working on posters during this period. Yet, a good-quality movie poster emerged in this period which it was a specific phenomenon in the European context. At this time the movie poster lived to see to many exhibitions. It has been reproduced many times. The movie poster gained a lot of prizes in many countries abroad and has also been collected as a collection article. The movie poster wasn´t a real form of advertisement but it was a demonstration of new arts styles which were available to everyone. The purpose of this thesis is to compare the 60's and the present. The second part of the theoretical part focuses on the present. Contemporary movie poster is merely translated into the Czech language and it keeps the original movie proposal. It is because the producers of Czech movies think that the best way to attract audience is to present them with photography of a Hollywood movie star. Nonetheless, by doing so, they have totally resigned regarding a creativity and fine form of movie poster. There are many logotypes on movie posters. For this reason, there is no room for fantasy, idea, joke or thought. Authenticity and originality of a poster is becoming suppressed. The poster seems to have no soul. After 1989 we have some examples of a good-quality poster attempts (e.g. Studio Najbrt) but this studio creates movie posters of a great majority of all Czech movies. It follows that other works have no chance to become visual. The practical part is focused on organizing exhibitions of movie poster.
