Armor and Weapons on Late Medieval and Renaissance Noble Tombstones in Moravia and in Czech Silesia

Abstract:

Cílem práce je dokumentace a analýza zbrojí a zbraní na šlechtických náhrobcích z období pozdního středověku a rané renesance, vymezené lety 1475 až 1575. Jako první se práce bude věnovat vývojem plátové zbroje v průběhu od jejího vzniku do 16. století. Analýza náhrobků bude spočívat ve snaze zjistit, jak moc se zbroje na náhrobcích podobají realitě a v případě výskytu chyb se práce bude snažit je popsat a opravit podle skutečnosti. Dále se práce bude stručně zabývat životem jednotlivých šlechticů, kterým tyto náhrobky patří.

Abstract:

The goal of the thesis is the documentation and analysis of armour and weapons on noble tombstones from the period of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance defined by the years 1475 to 1575. The thesis will be the first to focus on the development of plate armour from its inception to the 16th century. The analysis of the tombstones will consist of trying to find out how much the armour on the tombstones resembles reality and in case of errors the work will try to describe and correct them according to reality. Furthermore, the work will briefly deal with the life of the individual nobles to whom these tombstones belong.
