The omega-reducibility of pseudovarieties of ordered monoids in concatenation hierarchies

Abstract:

Práce se věnuje problému omega-reducibility pseudovariet uspořádaných monoidů odpovídajících stupňům zřetězovacích hierarchií regulárních jazyků. Pseudovarieta uspořádaných monoidů V se nazývá omega-reducibilní, jestliže pro každý konečný monoid M a pro každou nerovnost pseudoslov platnou ve V platí, že existuje nerovnost omega-slov, která je rovněž platná ve V a má stejný "obtisk" v M. V práci je dokázáno, že pro každou zřetězovací hierarchii, jejíž stupeň 0 je reprezentovaný lokálně konečnou pseudovarietou monoidů, pseudovariety odpovídající stupňům 1/2 a 3/2 jsou omega-reducibilní. Tento výsledek je dokázán dvěma způsoby - za prvé, za využití nedávných výsledků autorů Place, Zeitoun týkajících se tzv. "problému pokrytí" (covering problem) pro regulární jazyky, a za druhé, přímou manipulací s nerovnostmi pseudoslov platných v příslušných pseudovarietách. Jako důsledek těchto výsledků obdržíme tvrzení, že pro každou zřetězovací hierarchii, jejíž stupeň 0 je reprezentovaný lokálně konečnou pseudovarietou monoidů, pseudovariety odpovídající stupňům 3/2 a 5/2 jsou definovatelné pomocí omega-nerovností. Ve speciálním případě Straubingovy-Thérienovy hierarchie, za použití charakterizační věty pro stupeň 2 autorů Place, Zeitoun, odvodíme navíc tvrzení, že stupeň 2 je definovatelný pomocí omega-identit.

Abstract:

We deal with the question of the omega-reducibility of pseudovarieties of ordered monoids corresponding to levels of concatenation hierarchies of regular languages. A pseudovariety of ordered monoids V is called omega-reducible if, given a finite monoid M, for every inequality of pseudowords that is valid in V, there exists an inequality of omega-words that is also valid in V and has the same "imprint" in M. We prove that, for every concatenation hierarchy with level 0 being represented by a locally finite pseudovariety of monoids, the pseudovarieties corresponding to levels 1/2 and 3/2 are omega-reducible. This result is proven in two ways - firstly, using recent results on the covering problem for regular languages by Place and Zeitoun and secondly, directly manipulating inequalities of pseudowords valid in appropriate pseudovarieties. As a corollary of these results, we obtain that, for every concatenation hierarchy with level 0 being represented by a locally finite pseudovariety of monoids, the pseudovarieties corresponding to levels 3/2 and 5/2 are definable by omega-inequalities. Furthermore, in the special case of the Straubing-Thérien hierarchy, using a characterization theorem for level 2 by Place and Zeitoun, we obtain that the level 2 is definable by omega-identities.
