Traditional gender roles in the connection with parenting styles in young adults growing up in foster and biological families

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá souvislostmi mezi tradičními genderovými rolemi a vnímaným výchovným stylem matky a otce. Teoretická část se věnuje problematice výchovných stylů v rodině, mladé dospělosti a tradičním genderovým rolím prezentovaným tradiční feminitou a maskulinitou. Důraz je zde kladen na přehled aktuálních poznatků společně se syntézou uvedených témat. Empirická část se věnuje popisu průběhu výzkumu a výsledkům vlastního šetření. Výzkumný soubor byl tvořen 416 respondenty, tedy 339 žen a 77 mužů, ve věku od 18 do 30 let. Respondentům z biologických i pěstounských rodin byly administrovány dvě dotazníkové metody: dotazník dimenzí výchovných stylů a tradiční maskulinita - feminita. Na základě statistické analýzy získaných dat byla zjištěna řada signifikantních vztahů mezi tradičními genderovými rolemi a výchovnými styly. Nalezen byl vztah mezi feminitou i maskulinitou u žen a náklonností a komunikací matky a také autonomií matky. U feminity u žen byl zjištěn také vztah s psychickou kontrolou matky. U otce byl zjištěn vztah humoru s maskulinitou u jejich dcer. U mužů byla nalezena signifikantně významná souvislost pouze u maskulinity a to s autonomií matky. V neposlední řadě jsme zjišťovali, zda se liší výchovný styl a tradiční genderové role u respondentů z biologických a pěstounských rodin.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the connections between traditional gender roles and perceived parenting styles of mothers and fathers. The theoretical part is devoted to the issue of parenting styles in the family, traditional gender roles presented by traditional femininity and masculinity and young adulthood. Emphasis is placed on a review of current knowledge together with a synthesis of these topics. The empirical part is devoted to a description of the process and results of the actual investigation. The research sample consisted of 416 respondents, 339 women and 77 men, aged between 18 and 30 years. Two questionnaire methods were administered to respondents from biological and foster families: the Dimensions of Parenting Styles Questionnaire and the Traditional Masculinity-Femininity Questionnaire. Based on statistical analysis of the data obtained, a number of significant relationships between traditional gender roles and parenting styles were found. A relationship was found between both femininity and masculinity in women and maternal affection and communication as well as maternal autonomy. Femininity in females was also found to be related to maternal psychological control. Fathers were found to be related to humor with masculinity in their daughters. For males, only masculinity was found to be significantly related and that was with maternal autonomy. Finally, we investigated whether parenting styles and traditional gender roles differed between respondents from biological and foster families.
