Evil beyond evil: The Banality of Human Condition and the Concept of Evil

Abstract:

Klasifikační práce si klade za cíl rozebrat fenomén morálního zla z etického hlediska. První kapitola textu čtenáři představuje výběr zásadních etických teorií zla, jejich klady a zápory. Druhá kapitola se zaměřuje na problematiku radikálního a banálního zla. Nejprve je podáván stručný popis chápání radikálního zla u Immanuela Kanta a následně se překračuje k posunutému pojetí Hannah Arendtové, u níž je radikální zlo spjato se zlem banálním. Třetí a poslední kapitola pak rozebírá situační zlo z hlediska vybraných behaviorálních "experimentů" s ohledem na kapitoly předchozí.

Abstract:

The classification work aims to analyze the phenomenon of moral evil from an ethical point of view. The first chapter of the text introduces the reader to a selection of fundamental ethical theories of evil, their pros and cons. The second chapter focuses on the issue of radical and banal evil. Firstly, a brief description of Immanuel Kant's understanding of radical evil is presented, and then it moves on to Hannah Arendt's shifted conception, in which radical evil is linked to banal evil. The third and final chapter then discusses situational evil in terms of selected behavioural "experiments" with respect to the previous chapters.
