The phenomenon of memory in the present young generation art of Czech and Slovak

Abstract:

Předmětem diplomové práce "Fenomén paměti v českém a slovenském umění mladé generace" je paměť, vzpomínka a osobní historie, která se stává výchozím zdrojem mnoha uměleckých děl současných tvůrců. Jako úvodní esej tématu byla zvolena kniha Andrease Huyssena Přítomnost minulého, urbánní palimpsesty a politika paměti (2003). První část práce je pak zaměřena na paměť, její charakteristiku a paměťové postupy se zvláštním zřetelem na re-konstruktivní složku paměti a autobiografickou paměť. Druhá část se věnuje průzkumu katalogů českých a slovenských uměleckých přehlídek a soutěží od roku 1990 do roku 2012. Jeho výsledkem je pět témat, které jsou podrobně rozepsány na ukázkách konkrétních uměleckých děl. Na průzkum dále navazuje teoretická a osobní reflexe tématu. V poslední výzkumné části jsou, zejména na základě rozhovorů s mladými českými a slovenskými umělci do 35 let, zkoumány postupy a strategie práce s pamětí a způsoby, jež uplatňují při práci se vzpomínkou.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis called "The phenomenon of memory in the present young generation art of Czech and Slovak" focuses on memory and personal history that are described in many artwork of current authors. A book by Andreas Huyssen called Present pasts, Urban Palimpsests and the Politics of Memory (2003) was chosen as the opening essay of the theme. The first part of the thesis is focused on memory, its characteristics and memory procedures. The re-constructive part of the memory and the autobiographical memory are described very closely. The second part concentrates on the research of Czech and Slovak art exhibitions and competitions from the year 1990 to 2012. There are five themes as the result of this research and these themes are scheduled in detail with the help of particular work of art. A theoretical and personal reflection of this theme follows the research then. In the last research part there are some procedures and strategies of work with memory described. These procedures were examined with the aid of interviews with young Czech and Slovak artists aged to 35 years.
