Adolescent's awareness of human papillomavirus disease

Abstract:

Lidské papilomaviry (známé pod zkratkou HPV) jsou etiologickým agens mnoha onemocnění. Jedná se o skupinu malých neobalených DNA virů, které způsobují benigní i maligní léze v lidském organismu. Toto onemocnění postihuje všechny věkové kategorie, nejčastěji pak kategorii mladistvých. HPV patří mezi nejčastější sexuálně přenosná onemocnění. Ohroženi jsou jimi zejména mladiství, kvůli časnému věku, ve kterém dochází k zahájení sexuálního života, v kombinaci s nedostatečnou prevencí. Tato bakalářská práce má za cíl zmapovat informovanost mladistvých ve věku 12-19 let v České republice, konkrétně se zaměřením na Moravskoslezský kraj. Pro získání dat o informovanosti mladistvých byl použit anonymní dotazník, který byl distribuován do škol v Moravskoslezském kraji. Výsledná data byla zpracována a hodnocena především pomocí popisné statistiky, následně se podrobila statistickému testu Mann-Whitney pro dva výběry na hladině významnosti 5 %. Tento test následně zhodnotil statistický rozdíl ve znalostech dle pohlaví a dle věkové kategorie. Výsledky dotazníkového šetření ukazují, že podíl správných odpovědí u dívek ani chlapců nepřekročil 50 %. Dotazníkového šetření se účastnilo celkem 317 respondentů, přičemž 64 % dotazovaných tvořili chlapci a 36 % dívky. Průměrný věk respondentů byl 14,98 let (? 15). Na otázku, co znamená zkratka HPV neznalo 37 % dotazovaných odpověď, 26 % odpovědělo nesprávně a 36 % označilo správnou odpověď. Při statistickém testování nebyly ve skupinách dle pohlaví ani mezi věkovými skupinami nalezeny žádné statisticky významné rozdíly.

Abstract:

Human papillomaviruses (known as HPV) are the aetiological agent of many diseases. They are a group of small, uncoated DNA viruses that cause both benign and malignant lesions in the human body. The disease affects all age groups, but most commonly adolescents. HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. Adolescents are particularly at risk due to the early age of sexual initiation combined with a lack of prevention. This bachelor thesis aims to map the awareness of adolescents aged 12-19 years in the Czech Republic, specifically focusing on the Moravian-Silesian region. An anonymous questionnaire was used to collect data on adolescent awareness and distributed to schools in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The resulting data were processed and evaluated primarily using descriptive statistics, and then subjected to the Mann-Whitney two-sample statistical test at the 5 % significance level. This test subsequently evaluated the statistical difference in knowledge by gender and by age category. The results of the questionnaire survey show that the proportion of correct answers for neither girls nor boys exceeded 50 %. A total of 317 respondents participated in the questionnaire survey, with 64 % of respondents being boys and 36 % being girls. The mean age of respondents was 14, 98 years (?15). When asked what the abbreviation HPV stands for, 37 % of respondents did not know the answer, 26 % answered incorrectly, and 36 % marked the correct answer. No statistically significant differences were found in the groups by sex or between age groups on statistical testing.
