Reconciling work and family life and female flight attendants

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je nalézt strategie, které ženy na pracovní pozici letušky uplatňují při harmonizaci práce a rodiny. Teoretická část vymezuje základní pojmy, jakými jsou rodina, zaměstnání a pracovní pozice letušky a uchopuje je v současné společnosti. Následné kapitoly popisují faktory dělby domácích prací a genderových rolí, zároveň přístup k mužům a ženám na trhu práce. Doplňujícími částmi jsou kapitoly o problematice distribuce času mezi rodinou a zaměstnáním a vznikajících bariérách při jejich slaďování. Individuální strategie jsou podepřeny obecnými teoriemi, které vymezují rámec pro vysvětlení strategií samotných letušek. V závěru teoretické části jsou představena hlavní opatření harmonizace práce a rodiny, která bývají využívána. K zodpovězení hlavní a dílčích výzkumných otázek byla využita kvalitativní výzkumná strategie a polostrukturované rozhovory jako sběr dat. Dále se v metodologické části nachází specifikace výzkumného vzorku, průběhu sběru dat, analýza a definovaná omezení výzkumu. Závěrečná empirická část představu je analýzu získaných dat, které nám v závěru odpovídají na hlavní výzkumnou otázku. V závěru jsou popsány jednotlivé životní strategie letušek a dále jsou navrženy konkrétní intervence, které mohou pomoci letuškám lépe harmonizovat rodinu a zaměstnání. Jejich navržení reflektuje výpovědi samotných respondetek.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to find strategies which are employed by female flight attendants when reconciling their work and family life. The theoretical part includes several basic concepts such family, employment and flight attendants job position, and it attemps to show them in relation to the contemporary society. The following chapters describe the factors of the housework and gender roles division and at the same time they demonstrate the approach towards men and women in the labour market. The other chapters deal with problems of time distribution between family and work and the emerging barriers opposing the reconciling of the two. The individual strategies are supported by general theories providing a framework for explaining the strategies of flight attendants themselves. At the end of the theoretical part we introduce the main measures which are usually used during the work and family reconciliation process. As for the research strategy, qualitative research were used as well as semi-structured interviews as means of data collection. Further, the methodological chapter includes the specification of the research sample and the data collection process as well as the analysis and the limits to the research. The final part presents the empirical analysis of the collected data, which provides us with the answer to the main question of the research. In the conclusion we describe such specific interventions which can help flight attendants to improve their reconciling of their family and work. The proposed interventions also reflect the interviews of the respondents.
