The effect of contraception on some immunological parameters in saliva

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá hormonální antikoncepcí a jejím možným vlivem na imunologické parametry ve slinách. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda se při užívání hormonální antikoncepce mění hladiny slizničního imunoglobulinu A a celkové koncentrace proteinů ve slinách. Teoretická část seznamuje čtenáře se základními poznatky o hormonální antikoncepci, jako jsou např. obsažené hormony, historie, typy a formy antikoncepce a její účinek na ženský organismus. Následně popisuje fungování, rozdělení imunitního systému a jeho souvislosti se steroidními hormony estrogen a gestagen. Experimentální část popisuje metodu ELISA a metodu Bradfordové, které byly využity pro stanovení IgA a proteinů ve slinách. Součástí práce je také dotazníkové šetření o hormonální antikoncepci a faktorech, které mohou ovlivňovat hladiny látek s imunologickou funkcí. Z výsledků vyplývá, že nejsou významné rozdíly v hodnotách IgA a proteinů při užívání hormonální antikoncepce či jejím neužívání. Práce se také věnuje didaktickému začlenění tématu hormonální antikoncepce do výukových osnov gymnázií, pro která byla vytvořena naučná prezentace.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with hormonal contraception and its possible influence on immunological parameters in saliva. The aim of this study is to determine whether the level of mucosal immunoglobulin A and the total protein concentration in saliva changes when using hormonal contraceptives. The theoretical part introduces the reader to basic knowledge about hormonal contraceptives such as hormones contained therein, history, types and forms of contraception and its effect on the female organism. It then describes the functioning, the division of the immune system and its association with the steroid hormones estrogen and gestagen. The experimental part describes ELISA and Bradford method, which were used for determination of IgA and proteins in saliva. The thesis also includes a survey about hormonal contraceptives and factors that can affect the levels of substances with immunological function. The results show that there are no significant differences in IgA and protein values when using or not using hormonal contraceptives. The thesis also deals with the didactic integration of the topic of hormonal contraception into the curriculum of grammar schools, for which an educational presentation was created.
