Sustainability in Service Design Through the Designer's Perspective

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zjištěním postojů designérů služeb k udržitelnosti. Prostřednictvím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů designéři poskytují vhled do vnímání této problematiky v kontextu praxe.Hlavní zjištění výzkumu ukazují, že udržitelnost je nezbytná součást designu vzhledem k etice designéra a businessovému potenciálu udržitelnosti. Nicméně ukazují se výrazné rozdíly ve využívání přístupu HCD k udržitelnému designu a vnímání důležitosti udržitelnosti v rámci digitálních služeb.Na základě rozhovorů se však ukazuje, že udržitelnost někteří designéři považují jako otázku etické a existenční nezbytnosti. Také design služeb si k ní v průběhu času nalézá cestu, rámovanou řadou interních i externích faktorů, které byly v rámci práce identifikovány.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on exploring the attitude of service designers towards sustainability. Through semi-structured interviews, designers provide insight into their perception of sustainability in the context of their practice.The main findings show that sustainability is an essential part of the design in light of the ethics of the designer and the business potential it brings. Nevertheless, there are significant differences in the use of the HCD approach to sustainable design and perceptions of the importance of sustainability within digital services.However, interviews show that some designers perceive sustainability as a matter of ethical and existential necessity. The service design also finds its way to it over time, outlined by several internal and external factors that have been identified in this thesis.
