An Absurd Image of the Spanish Society during the Period of Francoism. The Dramatic Work of Miguel Mihura and Enrique Jardiel Poncela

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the depiction of the difficult political, social and cultural situation of Francoist Spain in the selected works of Miguel Mihura and Enrique Jardiel Poncela. These authors were connected with the discussed period and they were significantly influenced by the general events. In their works, there are visible certain elements of the Theatre of the Absurd which the thesis deals with. The aim is to show that a strong tendency of satire, irony and the desire for the escape known as escapism are intentional means of the authors in order to cope with the depressing situation of life in Francoist Spain.

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na zobrazení složité politické, společenské a kulturní situace frankistického Španělska ve vybraných dílech Miguela Mihury a Enrique Jardiela Poncely. Tito autoři byli spjati s daným obdobím a silně na ně působilo všeobecné dění. V jejich dílech jsou proto patrné jisté prvky absurdního dramatu, které práce zkoumá. Cílem je prokázat, že znatelná satira, ironie a v neposlední řadě také touha po úniku z reality, tzv. eskapismus, jsou záměrnými prostředky, které autoři volí, aby se takto mohli vyrovnat s tíživou životní situací za frankistického Španělska.
