Application of the Global Reading Method In Occupational Therapy

Abstract:

Abstrakt Úvod: Tato práce se zabývá problematikou využití alternativní metody výuky čtení v rámci ergoterapeutické intervence u klienta s Downovým syndromem. Cíl práce: Cílem této práce je seznámit veřejnost s možnostmi využití globální metody čtení v ergoterapii pomocí teoretických poznatků a kazuistiky vybraného klienta. Metodika: Hlavní část práce tvoří kazuistika klienta, pro jejíž zpracování byly využity metody pozorování, rozhovoru s rodiči, analýzy dokumentace, měření a testování s využitím standardizovaných testů a orientačních vyšetření. Na základě výsledků vstupního ergoterapeutického hodnocení klienta byl stanoven a realizován krátkodobý ergoterapeutický plán. Průběh intervencí je uveden v hlavní části této práce. Následným krokem bylo výstupní ergoterapeutické hodnocení a nastínění dlouhodobého ergoterapeutického plánu. Výsledky: Z výsledků práce vyplývá, že globální metoda čtení a ergoterapie mají v rámci rozvoje dítěte několik společných bodů a jejich vzájemné propojení může být pro klienta velmi prospěšné. Diskuze a závěr: Tato část obsahuje zamyšlení nad důležitostí multidisciplinárního přístupu a hledání alternativních cest, jak rozvíjet dítě s Downovým syndromem.

Abstract:

Summary Introduction: This thesis explores the subject of using an alternative method of teaching reading as part of an occupational therapy intervention for a client with Down syndrome. Objective of the thesis: This thesis aims to familiarize the public with the possibilities of using the Global Reading Method in occupational therapy by providing a theoretical background and a case study of a selected client. Methodology: The essential part of the thesis consists of a case report of a client, for which the methods of observation, interview with parents, analysis of documentation, measurement, and testing using standardized tests and orientation examinations were used. Based on the results of the initial occupational therapy assessment of the client, a short-term occupational therapy plan was formulated and implemented. The course of interventions is presented in the main body of this thesis. Subsequently, an exit occupational therapy assessment was conducted and a long-term occupational therapy plan was outlined. Results: The findings of the thesis indicate that the Global Reading Method and occupational therapy hold several commonalities in child development and that their interconnection can be advantageous for the client. Discussion and conclusion: This section reflects on the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and finding alternative ways to develop a child with Down syndrome.
