The Transformation of Journalistic Photography in the Post-Digital Era

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na proměnu žurnalistické fotografie vlivem postdigitální éry. Jako výzkumná metoda slouží zmapování stavu žurnalistické fotografie v současnosti. Bude stručně představen vznik, vývoj a historie žurnalistické fotografie, dále popsány nejdůležitější skupiny, hnutí a taktéž samotní významní představitelé. Jádrem práce je však současný stav a proměna podmíněná digitalizací a online prostředím, např. s nástupem televize zanikly oborově důležité časopisy, které stály u vzniku fotožurnalismu. Digitalizace otřásla základy tohoto klasického obrazového média a zároveň otevřela nejen nové pole možností, ale i problematických otázek s ní spojených. Tyto otázky sice doprovázely obor fotografie i při jejím analogovém využití, avšak s digitalizací fotografie se staly palčivější. Cílem práce je zmapovat současný stav žurnalistické fotografie. Dále také popsat zásadní body změny oproti dřívější praxi před digitalizací a poukázat na problematickou rovinu postdigitálního fotožurnalismu např. v kontextu hybridní války.

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis focuses on the transformation of journalism photography through the influence of the post-digital era. The research method is to map the state of journalism photography in the present day. The emergence, development and history of journalism photography will be briefly presented, the most important groups, movements and also important representatives themselves will be described. At the heart of the work, however, is the current state and transformation conditioned by digitisation and the online environment, e.g. with the advent of television, the industry-important journals that were at the origin of photojournalism have disappeared. Digitization has shaken the foundations of this classic image medium, opening up not only a new field of possibilities, but also the problematic issues associated with it. While these questions have accompanied the field of photography in its analogue use, they have become more acute with the digitisation of photography. The aim of the work is to map the current state of journalism photography. Further describe the fundamental points of change from the previous pre-digitalisation practice and point out the problematic level of post-digital photojournalism e.g. in the context of hybrid warfare.
