Bio art: between ethics and aesthetics

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá tématem biologického umění (bioartu), přičemž se tento fenomén snaží představit zároveň v historické a aktuální perspektivě. Jelikož v českém prostředí tento druh umění stále není příliš zevrubně rozebrán, v práci je kladen důraz na jeho podrobnější představení z hlediska historického vývoje, včetně představení kořenů a vzájemného ovlivňování se s ostatními druhy umění; podrobnější rozebrání klíčových děl bioartu v kontextu uměnovědných a bioetických otázek, které tato díla vyvolávají; zmapování tuzemských mediálních ohlasů; a prozkoumání otázek (terminologických, taxonomických) vztahujících se k vlastním charakteristickým rysům bioartu, stejně jakožto otázek týkajících se vztahu bioartu a bioetiky, resp. biopolitiky.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the topic of bioart. The goal of this work is to introduce this phenomenon in historical and contemporary perspective. Considering that this type of art has not been thoroughly examined in the Czech environment yet, the thesis focuses on the following aspects: the history of bioart and its development, including the description of the roots of bioart and its mutual influence with other art tendencies; the detailed analysis of the key art pieces in the context of artistic and bioethical questions; depiction of the Czech media responses to bioart; and the examination of the terminological and taxonomical questions which are related to characteristic features of bioart, as well as the questions related to bioart and bioethics or biopolitics. Annotation (Deutsch) Diese Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema der biologischen Kunst (Bioart), wobei dieses Phänomen in einer sowohl historischen als auch aktuellen Perspektive darzustellen probiert. In den tschechischen Umständen ist diese Kunstart noch nicht ausführlich analysiert und deshalb wird in der Arbeit ihre nähere Beschreibung der historischen Entwicklung einschliesslich der Vorstellung ihrer Wurzeln und gegenseitiger Beeinflussung mit anderen Kunstarten betont. Dann analysiert der Text die Bioart-Schlüsselkunstwerke im kontext der Fragen der Bioethik und des Gesamtkunstwerks, die diese Werke hervorrufen; erkundet die inländischen Medialanklänge und untersucht die (terminologischen und taxonomischen) Fragen, die sich sowohl auf die eigenen charakteristischen Zügen der Bioart als auch auf das Verhältnis zwischen Bioart und Bioethik beziehen.
