Proglaciální modifikace klastů před ledovcem Hørbyebreen na Svalbardu

Clasts modification in the proglacial zone of Hørbyebreen, Svalbard

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá rekonstrukcí transportní historie proglaciálních štěrků prostřednictvím studia poproudové modifikace klastů na proglaciálním sandru ledovce Hørbyebreen na Svalbardu. Vzorky byly odebrány metodou sítování na povrchu říčních lavic v sedmi lokalitách do vzdálenosti 1,4 km od čelní morény z malé doby ledové do proximální části sandru. Pro zjištění intenzity modifikace klastů se provedla analýza tvaru, zaoblení a petrotypu klastů ve zrnitostních frakcích 2–4 mm, 4–8 mm a 8–16 mm. K posouzení převažujícího tvaru klastů byl použit ternární diagram. Kovariantní graf s indexy C40 a RA se použil pro rozlišení subglaciální a supraglaciální transportní historie klastů a pro odlišení potenciálních zdrojů ložisek klastů. A pro zjištění trendu obecného zaoblování klastů po směru porudu od počátečního do konečného bodu byly aplikovány kovariantní grafy se vzdáleností a RA, RS a RR indexy. Výsledky analýz ukázaly, že zde byla velká poprodouvá rozmanitost zaoblení a petrotypů klastů ve všech zrnitostních frakcích. Na druhé straně se tvar klastů s poproudovou vzdáleností výrazně neměnil a byl více méně homogenní. Klasty migmatitu měly nejvyšší ostrohrannost, klasty vápence měly variabilní zaoblení a klasty pískovce jako jediné neměly téměř žádné ostrohranné klasty a pouze u nich byl zaznamenán trend obecného poproudového zaoblování ve všech frakcích. Celková variabilita zaoblení, petrotypu a C40 hodnot klastů naznačily, že klasty pochází z různých zdrojů, které se nacházely v odlišných vzdálenostech od místa depozice na výplavové plošině a tím pádem neprošly stejným transportem, z čehož vyplývá, že mohly být intenzivně modifikovány a naopak. Glacifluviální transport měl do vzdálenosti 1,4 proglaciálního sandru ledovce Hørbyebreen sice největší vliv na zaoblení klastů pískovce v rámci všech studovaných petrotypů, ale nebyl v rámci celkového hlediska tak výrazný, protože se vzdáleností narůstaly poloostrohranné a polozaoblené klasty, které vyjadřují spíše polozaoblený charakter klastů a zaoblené a dobře zaoblené klasty pískovce, které právě vyjadřují zaoblený charakter klastů, tak se vzdáleností nenarůstaly. Protože zde nebyl zaznamenán značně výrazný trend v zaoblení a tvaru klastů, tak z toho vyplývá, že glacifluviální transport do vzdálenosti 1,4 km proglaciálního sandru ledovce Hørbyebreen nebyl dostatečně dlouhý na to, aby dosáhl značné modifikaci klastů.

Abstract:

The bachelor’s thesis deals with the reconstruction of the transport history of the proglacial gravel on the proglacial sandur of the Hørbyebreen glacier in Svalbard. Samples were taken by sieving on the surface of the river bars at seven localities to a distance of 1.4 km from the Little Ice Age frontal moraine in the proximal part of the sandur. To determine the intensity of clast modification, the shape, roundness and lithology of clasts were analysed in the 2–4 mm, 4–8 mm and 8–16 mm grain fractions. Ternary diagram was used for an assessment of the predominant shape of clasts, a covariant plot of C40 and RA indices on the other hand to differentiate subglacially and supraglacially transported clasts and to distinguish potential sources of clasts. To determine the trend of the general downstream rounding of clasts from the beginning to the end point, covariant plots of distance and RA, RS and RR indices were applied. The results of the analyses showed a great downstream diversity of the roundness and lithological composition of clasts in all grain fractions. On the other hand, the shape of the clasts did not change significantly with the downstream distance and was more or less homogeneous. Migmatite clasts showed the highest angularity, limestone clasts had variable roundness and sandstone clasts were the only ones with almost no angular clasts and a trend of downstream progressive rounding in all fractions was observed for sandstone clasts only. The overall variability of petrotypes, roundness and shape of clasts indicate that the clasts originated from the different sources, which were located at different distances from the deposition site on the outwash plain and thus did not undergo the same transport distance. This leads to the conclusion that they have undergone diverse intensity of modification. Although the glaciofluvial transport had the highest influence on roundness of sandstone clasts within all petrotypes to a distance of 1.4 km of the proglacial sandur of Hørbyebreen glacier, it was not as significant in general. Due to the fact that there has not been observed a significant trend in roundness and shape modification of clasts, it can be generalised that the glaciofluvial transport to a distance of 1.4 km of the proglacial sandur of the Hørbyebreen glacier was not long enough for a significant modification of clasts.
