Abstract:
Tato práce se zabývá sémantickou analýzou čtyř tzv. „downtoners“ quite, rather, fairly a pretty. I když jsou tato příslovce obecně považována za synonyma, jejich význam není úplně totožný. Navíc se tato příslovce vyskytují v různých kontextech. Cílem práce je určit významové rozdíly mezi těmito slovy na základě údajů získaných z Britského národního korpusu a Korpusu současné americké angličtiny.
Abstract:
The thesis deals with the semantic analysis of four downtoning adverbs quite, rather, pretty and fairly. Although these adverbs are generally regarded as being synonymous, their meanings are not identical. Moreover, they occur in different contexts.
