Původ, smysl a úděl superhrdinů

High in the sky - or the origin, purpose and fate of the comic book superheroes

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na fenomén superhrdinů, fiktivních postav s výjimečnou mocí objevujících se od třicátých let dvacátého století v comicsech a později ve filmech, a snaží se zjistit, co existence takových hrdinů znamená. Šíře tohoto hledání je vyjádřena v názvu práce slovy "původ, smysl a úděl superhrdinů``. Práce zkoumá, jak vznikli, proč jsou tak oblíbení a co přinášejí svým čtenářům, ale také jaká je náplň jejich poslání včetně pravidel, kterými se řídí, a problémů, které jsou s touto činností spojeny. Jedná se hlavně o vztah moci a odpovědnosti, stojící v jádru jejich dobrodružství a určující jejich filosofii. Kromě etických principů a překážek superhrdinů se text věnuje i souvislosti těchto postav s pojmem hrdinství, otázkám ideologických schémat, působících na čtenáře v superhrdinských dobrodružstvích, a také možnostem superhrdiny coby symbolu a vzoru.

Abstract:

The thesis is aimed at the phenomenon of superheroes, fictional characters equipped with extraordinary powers who have appeared in comic books and later in movies since the 30th years of the 20th century. It tries to uncover what is the meaning of the existence of such heroes, with the extents of this searching being formulated in its title by the words "origin, purpose and fate of superheroes``. The thesis explores how did they grow up, why are they so popular and what do they bring to their readers, but also what is the purpose of their mission, including the rules they obey and the problems tied with their activities. It mainly deals with the relationship between power and responsibility which all their adventures revolve around and which determines their philosophy. Besides the ethic principles and obstacles of superheroes, the text attends to the connection between these characters and the idea of heroism, to the questions of ideological schemes that influence the readers of superhero adventures, and also to the possibilities of a superhero being a symbol and a model.
