Optimization of the use of fixation devices in radiotherapy with a focus on head and neck fixation

Abstract:

Radiation therapy, ie radiotherapy, contains a number of modalities and various modalities, which are then applied to the patient for the treatment of non-cancerous and especially cancerous diseases of patients. In this process, various fixation aids are used to achieve the most accurate treatment. These devices, such as a thermoplastic mask, help us get the patient exactly, always, in the same position, from the first setting on the simulator until the end of the treatment. It is this device that ensures an accurate, reproducible and fixed position of the patient, which is controlled, mainly by a radiological assistant. It is important to follow the recommended procedure when making this special device. Just when this procedure is followed, thermoplastic masks should be optimized, and variations in radiotherapy should be reduced. Masks from 2017 and 2019/2020 were compared. Thermoplastic masks from 2017 were produced by non-compliance with the production process by personnel. It was these thermoplastic masks that showed us that they had greater deviations than the masks from 2019/2020, in which this procedure was followed.

Abstract:

Liečba žiarením teda rádioterapia, obsahuje množstvo modalít a rozličných modalít, ktoré sú následne aplikovane pacientovi za účelom liečby nenádorových a hlavne nádorových ochorení pacientov. Pri tomto procese sú využívané rôzne fixačné pomôcky, pre dosiahnutie čo najpresnejšej liečby. Tieto pomôcky ako je termoplastická maska nám pomáha dostať pacienta presne, vždy, do tej istej polohy, od prvého nastavenia na simulátore až do ukončenia liečby. Práve táto pomôcka zabezpečuje presnú, reprodukovateľnú a fixovanú polohu pacienta, ktorú kontroluje, zhotovuje hlavne rádiologicky asistent. Pri zhotovovaní tejto špeciálnej pomôcky je dôležite dodržiavať doporučený postup. Práve keď sa dodrží tento postup mali by sa optimalizovať termoplastické masky, a zmenšiť odchýlky pri rádioterapii. Boli porovnávane masky z roku 2017 a z roku 2019/2020. Termoplastické masky z roku 2017 boli vyrábane nedodržiavaním výrobného procesu personálom. Práve tieto termoplastické masky nám ukázali že mali väčšie odchýlky ako masky z roku 2019/2020, pri ktorých bol tento postup dodržiavaný.
