Counter-terrorism in the Middle East

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje komparaci přístupů dvou velmocí, Ruska a USA, v boji proti terorismu, konkrétně proti teroristické organizaci Islámský stát (ISIS) na Blízkém východě. Práce je rozdělena do 4 částí. Teoretická část se věnuje terorismu, vysvětluje důležité pojmy spojené právě s terorismem zabývá se stručnou historií a strategií ISIS a porovnává obecné protiteroristické strategie obou velmocí. Dále se zabývá teorií realismu v mezinárodních vztazích, pomocí které je později hodnocena praktická část. Empirická část práce obsahuje analýzu zájmů jednotlivých velmocí v oblasti Blízkého východu a jejich vztahy s klíčovým regionálním partnerem. Poslední částí je analýza a následná komparace přístupů velmocí v boji proti ISIS na Blízkém východě.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare the counter-terrorist strategies of the two superpowers such as Russia and the USA in combating Islamic State (ISIS) in the Middle East. The thesis is divided into 4 parts. The theoretical part deals with the description of terrorism and with the brief history and strategy of ISIS. The general national strategies of these 2 countries are compared in this part of the thesis and as so the theory of realism in the international relations is introduced. The practical part is later evaluated on the basis of realistic theory. The empirical part analyses the interests of both states in the Middle East region and so their relations with key regional partners. The last part analyses and compares the Russian and the American counter-terrorist strategies against ISIS in the Middle East.
