The Success Factors of Community-Based Tourism in the Philippines

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá identifikací faktorů ovlivňujících úspěšnost konceptu turismu založeného na komunitě na Filipínách. Pro zjištění těchto faktorů je nejdříve identifikována množina faktorů, které by na rozvoj komunitního turismus na Filipínách potenciálně mohly mít vliv. Tyto potenciální faktory jsou zjištěny skrze rešerši literatury o turismu založeném na komunitě v jiných zemích světa. Je vybráno 8 iniciativ komunitního turismu na Filipínách, které jsou podle úspěšnosti rozděleny do tří skupin. Pomocí kvalitativních metod obsahové analýzy jsou poté informace o zjištěných potenciálních faktorech porovnávány s dostupnými zdroji o osmi zvolených iniciativách komunitního cestovního ruchu na Filipínách. Tímto způsobem je identifikováno celkem 32 faktorů ovlivňujících úspěšnost komunitního turismu na Filipínách rozdělených pomocí rybího diagramu do šesti souhrnných faktorů. Komparace vlivu jednotlivých faktorů na iniciativy komunitního turismu v závislosti na jejich úspěšnosti umožnila odhadnout důležitost jednotlivých faktorů. Posouzení relativního objemu informací o každém zvoleném faktorů umožnilo odhadnout povědomí o jeho významnosti.

Abstract:

This work deals with the identification of factors influencing the success of the concept of community-based tourism in the Philippines. To identify these factors, a set of potential factors that could affect the development of community tourism in the Philippines is first ascertained. These potential factors are identified through a search of the literature on community-based tourism in other countries of the world. Eight community tourism initiatives in the Philippines divided into three groups according to their success rate are selected. The information on identified potential factors is then compared with available resources on eight selected community-based tourism initiatives, using qualitative content analysis methods. In this way, a total of 32 factors influencing the success of community tourism in the Philippines, divided into six aggregated factors using a fish diagram is identified. A comparison of the influence of individual factors on community tourism initiatives, depending on their success, made it possible to estimate the significance of individual factors. Assessing the relative volume of information on each of the selected factors made it possible to estimate awareness of its significance.
